DSL for Children and Young People (Tuition)

Do you run a tuition business or act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) within your organisation? This comprehensive course is designed specifically for the tuition sector and provides the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to lead safeguarding effectively.

The DSL for Children and Young People (Tuition) course is a Level 3, half-day (4-hour) interactive session, developed in direct response to member demand. It covers the core responsibilities of a DSL under current UK legislation, including how to recognise and respond to safeguarding concerns, handle disclosures, and escalate appropriately.

The course also explores safer recruitment, working with parents and safeguarding partners, and how to build and embed a safeguarding culture across one-to-one, group, and online tuition. Through scenario-based learning and case studies, delegates will leave with practical tools, increased confidence, and a clear action plan for their role as DSL.

Attendees will receive a certificate upon completion of the session, which is valid for two years, demonstrating their ability to lead on safeguarding in a tuition context.

    £150 for members

    £300+VAT for non-members

Please note: the DSL must be a TTA member or part of your organisation’s membership bundle. They can be added for just £65.

    Event Details:

This is an interactive course, and active participation is required to receive a certificate of completion. Participants are expected to engage in discussions and join breakout sessions, as these are essential to the course experience and learning outcomes.

Please note: To ensure a smooth and productive session, we kindly ask all attendees to join on time. Late arrivals beyond 15 minutes may not be admitted, as this can disrupt the flow of the session for others.

Limited to 90 delegates. First-come, first-served. We expect this event to sell out.

The Tuition Leadership Day is a thought leadership and strategy day for tutors, tuition businesses and partners who are focused on the future direction of tuition in the UK and internationally and want to shape what comes next.

Through moderated panel discussions led by TTA’s President and featuring TTA officers alongside invited external industry leaders, we will explore:

    • Innovating Tuition Delivery
A practical look at how tuition is evolving — from pedagogy and safeguarding to training, technology, and evidence-based resources shaping day-to-day delivery.

    • The Role of Tuition in Inclusive Education
Exploring how tuition can meet the needs of students requiring support in mainstream settings or alternative provision - in the UK and internationally - with a focus on SEND, AP, and equity of access.
    • Unlocking Growth Opportunities in Tuition
A look at the evolving landscape of tuition markets - from international expansion to publicly funded programmes and emerging consumer demand.
    • The Future of Tuition
Examining the broader forces shaping tuition: government regulation, hybrid and online schooling, global trends, and the impact of technology and innovation.

Each session includes interactive audience Q&A, ensuring delegates are part of the conversation. The discussions from this day will directly inform TTA strategy, policy engagement and sector standards for the year ahead.

“The Tuition Leadership Day is a critical event in defining the direction of the tuition sector and the key areas of innovation, progress, concern and opportunity.”

This course is certificated and accredited by The Tutors’ Association, reflecting our commitment to maintaining high standards in safeguarding leadership across the tuition sector. It has been specifically developed to meet the needs of tutors and tuition businesses, ensuring the training is relevant, practical, and aligned with sector-specific safeguarding expectations.

As a non-profit organisation, TTA remains committed to keeping all core CPD free for members and offering extended training like this DSL course at a significantly subsidised rate to support the sector.
